Statutory Assessments in Primary School

Throughout primary school, children take part in a small number of statutory assessments. These help us understand how they are progressing and where we can support them further. These include:

• Reception (End of Early Years) – Good Level of Development
• Year 1 – Phonics Screening Check
• Year 2 – A repeat of the Phonics Check for any children who did not meet the standard in Year 1
• Year 4 – Multiplication Tables Check
• Year 6 (End of Key Stage 2) – National tests in Reading, Maths, and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS). Writing is assessed by teachers.
